Here are some local tech-related events to check out in the next month.
Charlotte Mini Maker Faire
Discovery Place Charlotte, NC | October 14th | 9 am – 5 pm | $13 – $17
Crafting, 3D printing, robotics, coding and more. Well, that’s quite the selling point. Having said that, it’s not free but really a good price for an all-day event that offers a great way to see the community at work with various technologies in a kid-friendly atmosphere. There are also opportunities for volunteering (if it’s not too late).
WISE Wednesday Networking with Celine Latulipe
Davidson, NC | October 18th | 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm | free
You might not have heard about WISE or may feel you have done their regular networking event but don’t let that keep you from this one. Dr. Latulipe has been a huge advocate for Women in Tech and even more so for developing education in tech. She has headed off some of the big changes going on at UNCC and will be talking about some of her recent research.
Come Tech Out Job Fair
Raleigh, NC | October 19th | 8:30 am – 1 pm | free
NCTA is one of the sponsors for the Research Triangle job fair which will have 500+ jobs to fill including tech and business development positions. There are also opportunities for job providers!
Grill, Chill, and Build
Noda Charlotte, NC | October 20th | 7 pm | free (maybe bring something for the grill)
Check out the local Charlotte Makerspace showcase–I hear there are paper rockets 😀
Agile Brew with Craig Smith
Catawba Brewing Co Charlotte, NC | October 25th | 6 pm – 8 pm | free
I haven’t been to a Charlotte Agile Network meetup before but I’m interested in this one. It looks like a good ol’ crash course that will leave us with lots of things to google later–in a good way.
Techtober Fest
OMB Charlotte, NC | October 26th | 4 pm – 7 pm | free
I don’t have a lot of info on this one but Vaco mentioned festive ales, brewery bites, and tech giveaways–can you go wrong with that?
The Geek Fest
CPCC Charlotte, NC | November 9th | 9 am – 3 pm | free
I will admit this one isn’t exclusive to tech but definitely looks like an interesting way to see different projects. There are also opportunities to get involved as sponsors, exhibitors, presenters, or volunteers.
Queen City Hackathon
Red Ventures Charlotte, NC | November 10th – 11th | free
Willing to stay up late? Work hard? Code like you’re on a mission? Cause at this event you will be. You’ll be helping the local Charlotte community by using data science and machine learning. And if that wasn’t enough there will be 10,000+ in prize money.
Sidenote: Keep in mind, teams need more than just coders.
Women in Tech Summit
Raleigh, NC | November 11th | 8:30 am – 5:30 pm | $40 (students), $100 (professionals)
The schedule shows some good options without the more common break-the-bank conference prices. Not to mention, a great way to network while also showing support for women in tech.
Have some inside knowledge about these events? Did you attend one and want to share? Did I miss your local affordable tech event? Feel free to fill us in by commenting below.
If nothing else I will be tweeting, instagraming, and posting away about the ones I attend 😀
